Is there a connection between food and mental health?
After last week's post about mental health, I took some time to evaluate how I have been feeling since last fall, what was different that could have caused my 'unexplained' period of feeling down.
💡 And that's when the lightbulb went off. Since Thanksgiving my eating habits have horrid... Like I have gained 10-15lbs 😳. I stopped fueling my body with fresh fruits and veggies and have been enjoying all of the delicious but bad for me foods since then. Then the 2nd 💡 went off. Since I have been making healthier food choices my mood has been improving. I haven't had a single day where I felt down and sad for 'no reason' since I have been getting myself on the healthy eating track...... Take a minuite to think about that and reflect on your own eating habits and your mood.
I am sure we have all heard before how eating right is good for us... But I don't think it ever really hit home HOW good for not only our bodies but also our minds it is! 🤯
So then I decided to look back at when I last felt so crappy a few years ago. I was at the heaviest I have ever been (aside from pregnancy). I was eating whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted, until I decided it had to stop and I started eating healthier and exercising again. With that my mood improved, I just never connected it to the food, I just thought I had accepted the other things that were going on were how it was going to be🤷🏼♀️ but now I realize that it was the food.
So here is my challenge for those of you that have been feeling like crap lately. Take a minuite and evaluate what you are putting into your body!
It's probably not all that healthy is it? I challenge you to commit to healthy eating for a week or 2. Drink enough water (half you body weight = how many oz of water you should be drinking) then reevaluate how you feel after that week.
I'd love to hear your findings and feelings on this! 🙌🏻
Have an amazing week my friends & good luck
